Coast to Coast Runner Stayed Last Night- An Incredible Man

April 11, 2010

Bjorn Suneson  stayed with us last night. He is from Sweden and he is running from Westport Washington to the coast of Georgia.

His goal is 3,300 miles in 100 days. This is his second time to run from coast to coast in the U.S.  In 2007 he ran from Virginia to the Oregon Coast.  It was a pleasure and a privilege to have him for the evening and night.  He is a true inspiration!  WOW!! He exceeds a MARATHON every day! Last night was his 4th day on his journey and you can read about his run and follow him on his blog.  I encouraged him to put COAST TO COAST on the front of his baby jogger that he pushes his pack and water in so people would know what he was doing. If any of you see a man running along pushing a 3 wheeled stroller just tell him hello from the Shepherd”s Inn. His blog will translate from Swedish to English for you.

Bjorn Suneson

We will never forget him!!

Flowering Plum Is Giving It’s Annual Burst Of Color

March 27, 2010

We have enjoyed this  tree for the last several years.  It’s leaves come on after it has bloomed, and are a very dark red color.  We have never pruned this tree, but we will need to soon, or it will overhang the deck and eventually the house.

The Shepherdess Suite Gets New Fireplace

March 5, 2010

We are always looking for ways to improve our rooms, and a corner fireplace seemed like a natural choice for the Shepherdess Suite.  It gives the room a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, as well as adding a little heat in the winter time.

Spring arrived very early this year.

February 26, 2010

I consider it is spring when the plum tree flowers!  It is so beautiful! I think this is the first time for it to bloom in February!

The bulbs are in bloom and the frog eggs we rescued are now little tads.  I do LOVE the four SEASONS  but without a doubt SPRING is my favorite!  I love the warmer days and working outside in the yard.  It is so rewarding when you can enjoy both the time outdoors and the satisfaction of giving your flower beds a welcome to spring greeting.

Have You Ever Hear A Frog Cry?

February 8, 2010

The sun is shinning and the air is filled with the feeling of Spring.  It’s almost 50 degrees and the fish in the pond have woke from their winters nap.   The first feeding of the the year is always fun as the fish are just like us.  They are hungry but it takes them a while before they decide to have their morning cup of “Coffee” or rather bit of breakfast in the form of  fish pellets.

We removed the netting that catches the winters gift of fallen leaves and discovered a skein of frog eggs. Mommy frog wasn’t too happy though when she discovered that her little darlings tads were no longer where she thought they belonged. Upon discovering that they were rolled up in the netting we carefully relocated them back in the edge of the pond and  Mommy Frog was HAPPY AGAIN!  Frogs are such amazing creatures and this Mom was no exception.

“It was the first time I had ever heard a frog cry.”

I didn’t even know they could cry!  We kept hearing this strange noise coming from the water and upon furter investigation we saw her swimming toward us with her head out of the water. The sound she was making wasn’t the normal sound you hear frogs make. It wasn’t a croak but like a muffeled wooshing sound. In fact I thought at first it was the sound of a big bird flying overhead. What a good Mommy Frog she was. She did not give up until she had her little tads back with her in the water.

“It’s amazing how mothers of any species will stop at nothing to protect their babies.”
